Compare the size of one delivery, the number of deliveries over a month, and the deadline for downloading. These are different limits. A service that accepts one large file may still have a monthly allowance, while an expiring link is unsuitable for a permanent client library.
What the free plan covers
WeTransfer's official plan documentation currently describes Free as up to 10 transfers and 3 GB of total usage in a rolling 30-day window. Its free-plan guide gives a maximum three-day link lifetime. Do not plan around older claims of unlimited 2 GB transfers retained for seven days. Check the allowance displayed in your account before uploading.
Paid plans add capacity and workflow features. WeTransfer explicitly says Free and paid accounts do not differ in upload or download speed. Paying for a plan should therefore be justified by its limits and features, not an assumed speed boost. Check the current offer for your region instead of relying on a fixed price copied into a comparison.
Work through your next delivery
For a single 5 GB export, the documented free allowance is insufficient. HexaTransfer may fit if the recipient can download within 14 days and you only need a delivery link. For frequent deliveries, a branded portal, managed team access or a persistent library, compare the corresponding paid features and storage products.
Ask the recipient to save the files before expiry and keep the source copy until receipt is confirmed. Trial the workflow with nonsensitive data, including opening the link on the recipient's device. This guide does not rank providers by measured speed: no reproducible measurement dataset accompanies the earlier speed figures.
HexaTransfer in practice
HexaTransfer is a free, account-free tool for occasional deliveries up to 50 GB. Links expire after 14 days by default; choose 1–30 whole days when creating the transfer; keep your own copy. Files and their names are encrypted in the browser with AES-256-GCM. The browser generates a random key and puts it after # in the share link. Send the complete link only to intended recipients: anyone holding it can decrypt the transfer, subject to any additional password protection.
The optional password controls access at the server; it does not derive the encryption key. Keep the tab open until the link appears, and allow enough disk space when downloading. Uploading does not remove the original file.
