Free WeTransfer Alternatives: Size, Expiry and Encryption

To choose a WeTransfer alternative, start with your delivery: its size, when the recipient can download and the confidentiality you need. HexaTransfer offers end-to-end encryption up to 50 GiB; SwissTransfer advertises 50 GB, a different unit from GiB. None of these temporary links replaces a backup.

WeTransfer's allowance covers the whole rolling window, rather than each upload. Check the remaining allowance in your account before preparing a delivery. Plans can change; official sources and the consultation date are listed below.

When HexaTransfer fits

For a delivery within the allowance, the browser encrypts files and their metadata with AES-256-GCM before uploading. The key stays after # in the link and is not received by the server. The tool requests neither an account nor an email address; its options include a password and a download limit.

Check a receiving constraint first: a file above 512 MiB requires a browser with direct-to-disk saving through File System Access. Without it, a combined ZIP download is also refused if its estimated size exceeds 512 MiB. Try the receiving device before a large delivery and read the 10 GB sending guide.

Keep the upload tab open until the final link appears; uploading cannot resume after closing or reloading it. Copy the entire link, share any password separately and note the displayed expiry. Choose 1–30 days in whole days using the selector, with 14 days by default; a chosen download limit can end access sooner.

When to consider SwissTransfer

SwissTransfer is another option for a delivery within its advertised 50 GB allowance. Infomaniak requires email verification for the first send from a new device even without account creation. For the account-free 30-day option, its FAQ specifies an initial 15 days, with an extension offered by email on day 12 and valid for three days.

Its documentation describes transit and at-rest encryption, including LUKS and AES 256-bit storage encryption. It does not establish that the provider is excluded from access to keys as in the HexaTransfer flow. Evaluate that distinction against the sensitivity of your files.

Decide using your delivery details

For an 800 MB folder needed tomorrow, first check the receiving browser and the selected service's remaining allowance. On HexaTransfer, a single file of that size needs direct-to-disk saving. If you want to avoid entering an email address in the tool, compare account-free flows and their verification steps.

For a delivery the recipient will collect in a week, a WeTransfer Free link lasting at most three days does not cover that schedule. The default 14-day HexaTransfer link can cover it if the download takes place before the displayed expiry. For a folder above 50 GiB, prepare separate deliveries or choose a service with enough capacity for the total.
